Invisalign
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a modern orthodontic system that uses a series of custom-made, clear plastic aligners to gradually shift your teeth into their ideal positions. Instead of relying on brackets and wires, each aligner is precision-crafted to fit snugly over your teeth, applying gentle and controlled pressure to guide tooth movement over time.
At Bayview Dental, we offer Invisalign as well as ClearCorrect, another trusted clear aligner system, giving you flexible options to find the right fit for your smile goals and lifestyle. Both systems are virtually invisible when worn, making them a popular choice for teens and adults who want effective orthodontic results without the look of traditional braces.
Clear aligner therapy can address a variety of orthodontic concerns, including:
- Crowded or crooked teeth
- Gapped or spaced teeth
- Overbite, underbite, and crossbite
- Open bite
- Mild to moderate malocclusion (misaligned bite)
If you have been living with a smile you are not fully happy with, Invisalign may be the straightforward, low-profile solution you have been looking for.

What is the Invisalign Procedure Like?
The Invisalign process is straightforward and designed around your comfort. Here is what you can expect from start to finish:
Step 1: Consultation and Smile Assessment
Your Invisalign journey begins with a thorough consultation at one of our Bayview Dental locations. Your dentist will evaluate your teeth, bite, and overall oral health to confirm that clear aligner therapy is the right approach for you. We will discuss your smile goals, answer your questions, and give you a clear picture of what treatment will look like.
Step 2: Digital Impressions and Treatment Planning
We use advanced digital scanning technology to capture precise impressions of your teeth, eliminating the need for traditional putty molds. These scans allow us to map out your complete tooth movement plan, and in many cases, you can even preview a digital simulation of your expected results before treatment begins.
Step 3: Receiving Your Custom Aligners
Your series of custom aligners is fabricated using your scan data. Each set in the series is slightly different, progressively guiding your teeth toward their final positions. When your aligners are ready, you will come in for a fitting, and your dentist will ensure everything fits correctly and comfortably.
Step 4: Wearing Your Aligners
For the best results, aligners should be worn for 20 to 22 hours per day. You will switch to a new set of aligners approximately every one to two weeks as directed by your dentist. Periodic check-in appointments allow us to monitor your progress and make any adjustments needed to keep your treatment on track.
Step 5: Completing Treatment and Retainers
Once you have completed your full series of aligners, your dentist will confirm that your teeth have reached their intended positions. To preserve your results long-term, we will fit you with a retainer. Wearing your retainer as directed is an important final step that keeps your new smile looking its best.

Recovery from Invisalign Treatment
One of the most appealing aspects of Invisalign is that there is no true recovery period in the traditional sense. Because the treatment is non-invasive, you can go about your normal daily life from the very first day.
A few things to keep in mind as you adjust to wearing your aligners:
- Mild pressure or soreness when switching to a new set of aligners is completely normal. This is simply a sign that your teeth are moving as planned, and any discomfort typically fades within a day or two.
- Some patients notice a slight change in their speech during the first few days of wearing aligners. This adjustment period is brief and resolves quickly as your mouth adapts.
- Keep your aligners clean by rinsing them regularly with water and gently brushing them with a soft toothbrush. Avoid soaking them in hot water, which can warp the plastic.
- Always remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything other than plain water. This protects both the aligners and your teeth.
- Store your aligners in their protective case whenever they are not in your mouth to avoid loss or damage.
Most patients find they adapt to their aligners within the first week and quickly settle into a comfortable routine. Our team is always here to support you throughout the process, so please reach out anytime you have questions or concerns.
Candidates for Invisalign
Invisalign is an excellent option for a wide range of patients, and the majority of adults and older teenagers with mild to moderate orthodontic concerns are strong candidates. You may be a great fit for Invisalign if you:
- Have crooked, crowded, or overlapping teeth you would like to correct
- Have gaps or spaces between your teeth
- Have a mild to moderate overbite, underbite, crossbite, or open bite
- Want to straighten your teeth without the visibility of metal braces
- Are committed to wearing your aligners for the recommended 20 to 22 hours per day
- Have healthy teeth and gums overall, or are willing to address any existing dental concerns before starting treatment
- Are a teen or adult looking for a flexible, lifestyle-friendly orthodontic option
Patients with very complex bite issues or severe misalignment may require a different treatment approach, and your dentist will discuss all available options with you during your consultation. The best way to find out if you are a candidate is simply to come in for an evaluation.
