Dental Exams

Woman talking to dentist during dental exam
At BayView Dental, we want you to understand the importance of dental exams. As a non-invasive procedure, it is one of the most important things you can do for your dental health. We recommend that you come to see us every six months for a full exam and cleaning to stay on top of your oral health. Our dentists offer gentle and informative exams that help you know the status of your oral health as well as the necessary steps to fix it as quickly as possible.

A Part of Your Biannual Appointment

The dental exam is a part of your bi-annual appointment. After our hygienists clean your teeth, floss, and apply the fluoride treatment, our experienced dentists will examine your teeth. The process is completely non-invasive and yet is one of the most effective ways to keep your oral health in great condition.

First, our dentists will talk with the hygienist to discuss any problem areas he or she saw. The dentists then look at your teeth, using an explorer, touching each tooth to test its integrity. During the entire process, our dentists will talk to you and let you know what they find.

What Dental Exams Do

The dental exam is a time for our dentists to catch any issues with your oral health early. For example, if we see tooth decay or early signs of gum disease, we can act proactively, putting a treatment plan in place that will stop the progression of the issue.

During our dental exams, we may also suggest dental x-rays or an oral cancer screening. Both procedures help give us a better look inside your mouth, letting us know what is going on. The x-rays give us a look into what is going on in your mouth beyond what the naked eye can see. We typically request full mouth x-rays annually, but if there is an issue that requires a deeper look, we may do them more often.

The oral cancer screening helps us catch any signs of oral cancer in its earliest stages. Unfortunately, oral cancer does not show symptoms until its latest stages. With regular oral cancer screenings by our reputable dentists, though, we can catch cancer early, treat it, and avoid the complications of advanced stages of cancer.

Keep up Your Appointments

The best thing you can do for your oral health is to have your dental cleanings and exams done every six months. Our dentists and hygienists will help keep your oral health in optimal condition if you keep up your appointments.

The earlier that we catch any oral health issues, the easier it is to treat them. Our dentists use a gentle approach and effective methods to treat all oral health issues, but the sooner we know there is a problem, the sooner we can treat you.

If you are ready to for your dental exam to determine the status of your oral health, call BayView Dental at one of our 7 convenient locations today. Our staff will set you up with an appointment at your earliest convenience, helping you to get the most out of your dental exam.
