Dentures - Complete, Partial, & Custom
There must have been a lot of people going without teeth in the old days. That might explain why there are so many old wive’s tales about missing teeth. Have you heard the one about putting a lost tooth in a glass of milk and bringing it to us? That doesn’t work. We’ve also had a patient come in with a tooth they put in place with superglue - which doesn’t work either. All of the techniques for saving your teeth don’t work if you lose a tooth due to tooth decay or gum disease. If that happens, there is no saving a tooth.
Before you get discouraged, you should know that we can replace the tooth, just not with your original tooth. There are several ways a lost tooth can be replaced. We can replace missing teeth with crowns, implants, or dentures. We can make you complete dentures or partial dentures. If you need more information about dentures, let BayView Dental take a minute to tell you more about dentures

Why Do People Need Dentures?
Believe it or not, dentures have been around for a long time- hundreds and hundreds of years. Not that long ago, people were tooth-free by the age of 30. The father of our country, George Washington, lost all of his teeth by the age of 30. Of course, people weren’t really brushing their teeth or flossing in George Washington’s day either. They also didn’t come and visit us, because dentistry didn’t exist. However, people still didn’t want to hang around with missing teeth, because they felt self-conscious. They wanted to look their best. Dentures were invented so people could look and feel their best.
How Can I Get Dentures?
In the past, older dentures were made of real teeth, or fake teeth made of ivory and gold. Making a set of dentures in the past took forever. These days, we can make dentures much lighter and more flexible. Dentures are made of a combination of porcelain and plastic. They are also more durable than dentures were in the past. Dentures allow you to eat all of your favorite foods. They allow you to speak as well.
If you have some of your teeth left, you will benefit from partial dentures. We would make an impression of your teeth or look at old photos and x-rays to make your new teeth. Your partial denture would be attached using metal brackets to your other teeth. Full dentures are made the same way, except we would fit them to your entire mouth. Whether you wear full or partial dentures, you will need to bring them in with you when you come to see us. That way, we can check them to make sure they are still working properly.
