Dental Bonding

Do you like to bond? If you do, you are not alone. Most of us enjoy bonding. That’s because it has to do with us attaching and remaining close to people we love, which is a nice feeling. We can have lots of different bonds, some are closer than others. For example, our family bonds are usually tighter than the bonds we have with employees in our workplace, or the people we see at the local coffee shop. Our bonds with people make living worthwhile. But did you know that we can form bonds with your teeth as well? In fact, tooth bonding can help you make new bonds with other people. Not sure what we mean? Let BayView Dental take a minute of your time to discuss bonding with you.

Why Might I Need Bonding?

You put your teeth through a lot over the course of a day. Maybe you are one of those people who chew ice. You might use your teeth to open cans or bottles. Or perhaps you like to exercise and play sports without using a mouthguard. You might like playing outside with your kids and running around. Maybe you are carrying your son or daughter on your shoulders, and they kick you in the teeth. There are lots of times when you have a “little” accident that can show up gradually in your mouth. Cracks, chips, or breaks show up gradually over time. You might even chip a tooth eating a chocolate chip cookie.

While we are kidding about chips and cracks a little, we are not kidding about the effect on your smile. If you have a chipped or cracked tooth, you may not want to laugh or smile, because you don’t want to show off your disfigured tooth. Even if your tooth is not horribly damaged, you may not want to let people see an imperfection. That’s where bonding comes in. With bonding, we can fix nearly all of your mistakes.

What Can Bonding Do to Help?

Bonding is the use of a composite to fix problems with your teeth. A lot of people like bonding, because it is painless and easy. When we bond teeth, we are using a composite material that is close to the same color as your natural teeth. With that in mind, if you choose to do the bonding, you will need to whiten your teeth before you have bonding done. That’s because if you don’t whiten your teeth before, you can’t whiten them after bonding is done, or the colors won’t match. You wouldn’t want your bonding to be a different color than your natural teeth.

When you decide to bond your teeth, it can fix all kinds of issues. For example, if you chipped one of your front teeth on a water bottle, we can fix it with bonding. If you cracked your tooth eating popcorn at the movies, we can fix a cracked tooth with bonding. If you clench or grind your teeth at night, you may have worn your enamel thin on some of your teeth- we can fix that through bonding. If you look like Michael Strahan - because of the large gap in your front teeth - we can fix your gap with bonding. We can also use bonding to fix a discolored tooth.

Bonding can fix a multitude of sins- especially dental ones. If you have less than perfect teeth, give BayView Dental a call at one of our 7 convenient locations now!
